Election Finance Analysis: Donor Category Definitions
VoteToronto's analysis of campaign donations breaks the donors down into individual, union and business categories. Corporate donors have been further classified into the types of businesses, including lobbyists, developers, advertising companies, and so on.
- Individuals: Named contributors as supplied by candidates, not otherwise classified below.
- Property Developers Construction: companies engaged in property management, real estate development, and construction contracting.
- Candidates: self financing and spousal contributions.
- Consultants Lawyers Lobbyists Financial: Consultants, law firms, lobbyists or financial companies.
- Hospitality Retail Transport Consumer: Hotels, restaurants, retail, transportation, consumer services.
- Media Entertainment: advertising, signage, promotion, TV, Radio, communications.
- Unions: Trade unions
- Community Medical Health: Doctors, drug companies, community health organizations
- Unclassified: contributions not otherwise classified.
