Maria Augimeri's Voting Record:Votes supporting the community position: 1Votes against the community position: 2 Absent/Abstained: 2
Augimeri was elected by the NDP machine, but her record has been spotty at best. She seems to be more concerned with her political survival than the good of the city, and yet she easily won the 2003 election. VoteToronto placed her squarely in the “mushy middle” on community issues. She supported the Island Airport Bridge and the Union Station deal. She continues to have support of the Labour Council and scored well on the Arts Vote but her record on council is uninspiring. Now Magazine called her a “lackluster performer.” She supported Barbara Hall as mayor in 2003 despite her connection with the NDP. In December 2003 she voted to build the bridge to the Island Airport, not a good sign of the political direction she will take. Maria Augimeri is on the Policy and Finance Committee, the Economic Development and Parks Committee and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Encompassing Downsview Park, Ward 9 is home to a large Italian population, with 28.1% of residents reporting an Italian background. The ward's average household income is significantly lower than the Toronto-wide average, at $52,636, compared to the Toronto average of $69,125.
